2019 International Youth Martial Arts Camp
□ Project period : January to November 2019
* Camp held from 15 August (Thu) to 21 August 2019 (Wed), 6 nights and 7 days
□ Participants : 55 teenagers from 5 member states*
* Member states whose martial arts have been inscribed on the UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List - the Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Turkey and Brazil
□ Project description
- Theoretical learning such as UNESCO’s Global Citizenship Education (GCED), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 5 and martial arts included in the UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List
- Hands-on activities including Taekkyeon, Ssireum, Capoeira, Kurash and Bukh classes and a yacht ride
- Field trips to the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (ICHCAP), Jeonju Hanok Village, the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding under the auspices of UNESCO (APCEIU), Seoul Tower and Chungju
□ Outcomes
- Sensitized and involved young people in mutual learning processes and dialogues which fuel improved self-awareness and confidence
- Provided learning opportunities for the participants to become peer leaders and educators in turn actively engaging themselves in the society
