General Information |
Kasagake is a horse-mounted archery style from Japan. While yabusame is linked closely to festivals, kasagake has developed with a bigger focus on technical elements of horseback archery. In kasagake the archer shoots while riding and turning, contrary to yabusame. Also different from yabusame is the variety of targets. The archers wore the same clothes as the yabusame, but without the hat since it was traditionally used as the target. (The Japan Equestrian Archery Association, s.d.) |
History/Development |
Kasagake was practiced in the Heian and Kamakura period by the Samurai. Kasagake was a way to become skillful at hitting the most vulnerable place of a heavily armored person, the face. (The Japan Equestrian Archery Association, s.d.) |
