The International Centre of Martial Arts for Youth Development and Engagement under the auspices of UNESCO (ICM) is pleased to announce the publication of Pacific-Oceanic Martial Arts: Born of the Ocean, Carried by the People, the final outcome of the 2025 World Martial Arts In-depth Research project.

This volume features five in-depth research reports covering ten martial arts traditions from seven Pacific-Oceanic regions: Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and New Zealand (Aotearoa). Topics include the martial origins of Pacific war dances, indigenous weapon arts (Mau Rākau), traditional Tokelauan wrestling (Fagatua), and the cultural evolution of Limalama.

All reports underwent a rigorous three-stage review process overseen by an international Examination and Editorial Board chaired by Professor Peter Lorge (Vanderbilt University). Five researchers contributed to this 380-page publication (ISBN 979-11-91300-47-5).
