The Baku Outcome Document is an international consensus adopted in June 2023 as a key outcome of the Seventh International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VII), held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Conference brought together representatives from over 110 UNESCO Member States, as well as government officials, international organizations, academia, civil society, and key stakeholders in the field of sport. Participants discussed shared directions and principles for action to address social and economic challenges through physical education and sport.
The Baku Outcome Document reaffirms sport not merely as physical activity or competition, but as a key policy instrument for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and emphasizes the following:
- - Promoting social inclusion, gender equality, and youth empowerment through sport and quality physical education (QPE)
- - Strengthening evidence-based policymaking and enhancing data and research
- - Establishing multi-stakeholder partnerships involving governments, the private sector, and civil society
- - Encouraging sustainable and impact-oriented investment through sport
In particular, the Document formally endorses UNESCO’s flagship sport programme, Fit for Life, and serves as an important reference supporting the establishment of the Fit for Life Global Alliance as part of its implementation framework. |
